Hot Rod Show & Tbird Sighting

65 Tbird Floreat
65 Thunderbird Floreat

Ben's board track racer

This weekend was the annual 2010 WA Hot Rod Show at Burswood.
Unfortunately, no Tbirds there this year, but luckily I met with Tony’s 1965 Roadster just around the corner here in Floreat. Nice!

Larry Watson R.I.P.

Sadly, Larry Watson passed away on July 20th, a day before his 72nd birthday.
The Custom painter supremo, who created the ‘panel painting’ style most famously on his brand new ‘58 T-Bird, will be sadly missed by his fans and admirers.
No doubt there will be plenty of ‘Watson-style’ tribute cars appearing in the future.
RIP Larry.

Summersun Twilight Cruise 2010

Last night we joined the line-up of customs, classics and hotrods snaking along the Freeway to Mandurah, for the Summersun Twilight Cruise. We took the ‘50 Chevy Pickup for a run, and apart from incidental deafness and tinnitus, we had no trouble at all.

On arrival, there were scores of cars – a great display. Tracy’s experiment shooting non-flash photos proved disastrous – but she did pretty good with the video. Although points deducted for not shooting the lineup of vehicles parked along the foreshore. Oh wait, that’s probably Paul’s fault for not doing a drive-by.

Anyway, see the little 1-minute travelogue below. There are a couple of TBirds, and an array of rods and customs overtaking us along the way. Had to suppress the soundtrack for copyright restrictions – just imagine Elvis’ TrainRide playing while we await his permission to use it.

Join in next year – the most fun you can have on a mid-week night without getting arrested (no guarantees though).

Big Al’s Poker Run 2010

Pirates at checkpoint

Can you believe 2010 is the 30th Anniversary of the Poker Run?

Imagine the car polish and elbow grease involved. Not to mention the carbon dis-credits earned.

This is the fourth year the Cranksters have manned a checkpoint along the route. Keen to surpass our ‘Mexican Border Patrol’ theme last year, some-one suggested ‘Pirates’ – the blame surely rests squarely on Ben’s shoulders, seeing as he was word-perfect on the SpongeBob theme song.

That’s me in the full Pirate costume, after the wig was abandoned due to heat distress. And there were more than enough mullets on display already.

Five pounds lighter today (I don’t recommend brocade jackets or stockings for Perth summers) and hoarse-of-voice (sorry if you were on the receiving end of Pirate Tourette’s), here’s a few choice pics

Have a look-see, Squid-lips.

All Ford Day

Turquoise Tbird

Shiny cars, blaring sun and hayfever. It must be that time of year again – All Ford Day at Bassendean Oval.

It’s worth considering joining in this bi-annual event, if you’re content being in one place for several hours without A.D.D. kicking in, and you don’t have a phobia about fingerprints marring your fastidiously polished duco.

See the Picture Gallery here.

Fiesta Fever in South Perth

Our 57 Tbird

Fiesta car lineup

The weather was a little lacklustre, but the Fiesta on the South Perth foreshore was a good opportunity to show-and-shine the Tbird.

Luckily there were no kiddies hopped up on sugar pretending the cars made reasonable substitutes for Pinatas.
